Deformation rig

The servo-controlled deformation rig can generate axial forces of up to 3000 kN. It is routinely used to determine standard rock mechanical parameters like unconfined compressive strength, tensile strength, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio.

Triaxial compression

The deformation rig can be equipped with a heatable pressure vessel which can produce confining pressures of up to 150 MPa at temperatures of up to 200 °C. This allows to reproduce the pressure and temperature conditions which are typical for sedimentary basins and the upper 6 km of the earth's crust, respectively. A special feature is the large sample dimension with diameters of up to 100 mm and lengths of up to 250 mm.
